Mohammed Samara
Mohammad Samara (b. 1954, Irbid, Jordan) is a Jordanian visual artist and art educator of Palestinian origin. He is a member of the Jordanian Artists Association and has dedicated his life to both artistic practice and art education. Samara’s work carries a strong humanitarian message, addressing the Palestinian cause and the broader human condition, particularly the experiences of displacement, oppression, and injustice faced by people in the Arab world. His artistic language is contemporary and experimental, combining modern visual approaches with expressive and intuitive techniques. He employs shadow as a central element in his compositions and integrates diverse, innovative materials such as sand and mixed media, especially in his oil paintings. His work is characterized by layered textures, unconventional color applications, and collage techniques that add depth and tactile presence to the surface. Through these methods, Samara seeks to create a genuine sensory experience, where color becomes both visually and physically expressive. While the human figure and the concept of homeland appear as recurring themes, they often function as secondary elements within the composition. Greater emphasis is placed on the materiality of the paint, surface texture, and the emotional resonance of color and shadow. Samara’s work has received wide media attention and has been featured by regional and international outlets, including Reuters, Jordanian and Arab television channels, newspapers, and digital media platforms. His studio has been visited by journalists, art critics, and cultural figures, and his work has reached a broad audience through interviews and YouTube features. In addition to his artistic career, Samara holds a Diploma in Education as well as a Diploma in Sculpture and Carving. He worked as an art teacher with the Jordanian Ministry of Education and in the United Arab Emirates for over 42 years, contributing significantly to art education and mentorship.
