Nahla Asia
Nahla Asia is a Jordanian visual artist, born in Tulkarm, Occupied Palestine, in 1966. She holds a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Mahana Al-Durra Center (2014) and is a graduate of Beirut University. She is a member of the Jordanian Association of Visual Artists and the Jordanian Writers Association, and the founder of Alwan Association for Artistic Creativity.
Asia has held three solo exhibitions, most recently Roots, and has participated in numerous local and international exhibitions. Her achievements include the Best Artwork Award (2015), First Prize in Short Story Writing in Egypt (2011), and several local and Arab honors. She is also the author of the short story collection Echoes of Distant Souls, with four unpublished manuscripts.
Belonging to the fifth generation of the Jordanian modern art movement, Nahla Asia’s practice centers on themes of identity, belonging, memory, and the Palestinian cause. Her recent exhibitions—Longing for the Light, Gaza Hashem, and Roots—explore land and roots as powerful symbols of homeland, displacement, and human connection to place. Blending Impressionism and abstraction, her work employs expressive color and texture to convey emotional depth, women’s presence, and collective narratives, positioning her as a significant voice within Jordanian and Arab contemporary art.
